Toastmasters for People with Hearing Loss
April 2025 HOPE Notes

This month, the HOPE team and participants welcomed special guest Harry Wolfe, founder and leader of Audible Talkers, the Toastmasters group for people with hearing loss.

Audible Talkers Builds Confidence, Leadership, and More

Harry founded the Audible Talkers because he had difficulty hearing the speakers at Toastmasters events. The Audible Talkers meet via Zoom twice a month. Meetings are very hearing-friendly, with captioning, transcripts, a chat box, and Powerpoint presentations.

Meetings include a prepared speech, impromptu table topics to build confidence and quick thinking, and an open call to answer questions like “Who inspires you?”

Perhaps most importantly, the Audible Talkers create a space filled with kindness and patience, one where people are allowed to learn without pressure. Peer evaluations provide constructive feedback, including highlighting a speech’s strengths, such as clarity, having an engaging opening, pacing, ease of lipreading, and eye contact. Members also provide written feedback via a chat link.

You can attend several times before you join. Everyone is welcome. Dues are just $60 twice a year.

Thank you, Harry, for joining us and sharing our time and expertise with us.
